After a critically acclaimed turn as Catherine the Great in the dramedy “The Great,” Elle Fanning will reunite with Hulu for their upcoming limited drama series “The Girl From Plainville.”
“The Girl From Plainville” will be using Jesse Barron‘s Esquire article of the same name as its source material. The show is inspired by the real-life story of Michelle Carter, a woman convicted of involuntary manslaughter in June 2017 in a controversial case of “texting-suicide.”
The Hulu series will focus on the relationship between Carter and 18-year-old Conrad Roy III, the events that led to his death and Carter’s controversial conviction. “The Girl From Plainville” will be executive produced by Liz Hannah (“The Post“) and Patrick Macmanus (“Dr. Death“), who will also serve as co-showrunners. Fanning will also executive produce the show with Brittany Kahan Ward from Echo Lake.
The case was previously explored in the HBO documentary “I Love You, Now Die” directed by Barron and Erin Lee Carr, who will be consulting producers for the Hulu series, while Kelly Funke will oversee for Macmanus’ Littleton Road Productions.

“The Girl From Plainville” joins a roster of limited series at Hulu that also includes “Little Fires Everywhere,” “Mrs. America,” “Catch-22,” and “The Act.” The streaming service recently added the upcoming series “Nine Perfect Strangers” to its slate.
