Emile Hirsch will join Olivia Thirlby, in “The Darkest Hour,” who we previously reported had signed on to star in the Timur Bekmambetov-produced film.
The film was originally scripted by Black List favorite Joshua Zetumer who worked on “Bourne 4,” and “is set in Moscow and follows a group of Americans traveling in the city when an alien invasion occurs. Thirlby plays a trust fund girl trying to survive the attack who teams up with others to try to defeat the invaders.” Variety reports the current draft is the work of writers Les Bohem (“The Alamo” and the upcoming “Real Steel” with Hugh Jackman) and Jon Spaihts (Black List-favorite “Passengers”).
The film will begin shooting in Moscow in June, with Chris Gorak (director of the little-seen terror thriller “Right At Your Door”) helming. Gorak was also Art Director for such films as “The Man Who Wasn’t There,” “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and “Fight Club” and with comparisons already being made to “28 Days Later,” we are expecting a visually ambitious affair. — Mark Zhuravsky & Eric T.
