It feels like the rumors of John Krasinski and his real-life wife/critically-acclaimed actress, Emily Blunt, starring in a reboot of “Fantastic Four” have been speculated for years now. They’re both talented actors, no doubt, and both have flirted with Marvel Studios films in the past (Emily Blunt had to turn down the role of Black Widow in “Iron Man 2” and John Krasinski made it near the end of Captain America casting), but no matter how many times the duo deny the rumors of “Fantastic Four,” it keeps popping up. Well, in a new interview with Howard Stern, Blunt once again denies the rumors and basically explains why she doesn’t know if a superhero film is ever in the cards for her.

“That is fan-casting,” said Blunt about the ‘Fantastic Four’ rumors. “No one has received a phone call. That’s just people saying, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?’ And that’s it.”
“I don’t know if superheroes are for me. They’re not up my alley,” she added. “I just think we’ve been exhausted. We’ve been inundated. And it’s not only just the movies, it’s the endless TV shows, as well. That’s not to say that I would never want to play one. It would just have to be something so cool and a really cool character, then I’d be interested. But in general, I don’t race to see superhero movies. In general, they leave me a bit cold. I can’t explain it. I can’t get in there.”

As mentioned, Blunt was originally cast as Black Widow in “Iron Man 2” more than a decade ago, but had to step away due to scheduling conflicts with “Gulliver’s Travels.” And in the interview with Stern, Blunt fully explains that it wasn’t her choosing ‘Gulleriver’s’ over “Iron Man 2.” In fact, she didn’t actually want to do “Gulliver’s Travels,” but a contract issue made it impossible for her to back out.
“I was contracted to do ‘Gulliver’s Travels.’ I didn’t want to do ‘Gulliver’s Travels,’” she explained. “It’s a bit of a heartbreaker for me because I take such pride in the decisions I make.”
Obviously, even though she denies the “Fantastic Four” rumors, the idea of a superhero film isn’t completely out of the question. And with Marvel working with writer-director Jon Watts on a new ‘FF’ film, perhaps the call is coming. But for now, it’s clear that Blunt and Krasinski are not cast in the roles, and fans might want to temper their expectations about the duo showing up in the MCU at all.
