What is it about some Teen-Beat-y stars joining the cast of “Scream 4” that makes us roll our eyes, but the announcement that Emma Roberts joining the cast makes us go slightly easy on the subject matter?
Is it because she’s a) Julia Roberts’ niece, b) her Neutrogena freshface is just so pinchable and cute, or c) because she was cast in two movies we’re greatly anticipating this year, Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden’s “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” and Dustin Lance Black’s directorial debut, “What’s Wrong with Virginia,” cause we’ll be honest, we’ve barely seen her work before — this writer hasn’t yet seen “Twelve,” “Lymelife” or “Valentine’s Day” (and two of three are likely well excused from all accounts).
The answer is a little bit of all the above, but mostly yes, we’re impressed that she scored plum roles in two 2011 films we have very high hopes for.
So even if she’s simply just going to be more jailbait-y fresh kill for Wes Craven’s very pointless and seemingly desperate fourth attempt (in 3D) to bring this tired franchise back to life, but we’re keeping our eye on this kid. She’s got the looks and hopefully the talent too.
“Scream 4: The Ooooh So Scary Times Return in 3D” sees the return of Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette alongside the recently announced Rory Culkin (Culkin family), Hayden Panettiere (“Heroes”), Lake Bell (“How to Make It in America”) and Ashley Greene (“Twilight”). As our astute “Scream” fan commenters point out, Green is out and Roberts replaced her as Craven himself has confirmed (that role, Jill was originally reported to be Greene’s).
