'Enforcement' Trailer: Danish Filmmaker Examine Police Brutality Through An Action-Thriller Lens

The trailer for the Danish thriller “Enforcement” seems to rip a story from the headlines. The movie centers around the tragic death of teen Talib Ben Hassi. He is held down by police officers, despite shouting that he cannot breathe. He’s taken to the hospital but succumbs to his injuries.

The teen’s death sparks several protests. The movie subsequently spends time examining police brutality, along with the prejudices that are ingrained in all of us. It’s an eerie examination of some of the issues that have been largely plaguing the U.S. in the last year. But it’s also strangely, something of an action-thriller that looks a little bit like Yann Demange‘s ‘71,’ which reimagined the deadly Belfast riots of the early 1970s through a similar muscular and visceral lens. Is this shallow copraganda or something deeper?

The movie stars Jacob Lohmann (“Follow the Money“), Simon Sears (“Shadow and Bone“), Tarek Zayat (“Christiania“), Özlem Saglanmak (“Truth About Men“), and Arian Kashef (“When the Dust Settles“). “Enforcement” was written and directed by Anders Ølholm and Frederik Louis Hviid, both in their feature film directorial debuts.

The exact details of what took place while Talib Ben Hassi (19) was in police custody remain unclear. Police officers, Jens and Mike, are on routine patrol in Svalegården’s ghetto when news of Talib’s death comes in over the radio, igniting uncontrollable, pent-up rage in the ghetto’s youth, who lust for revenge. Suddenly, the two officers find themselves fair game and must fight tooth and claw to find a way out.
