EOne Lands North American Rights For David Cronenberg's 'Cosmopolis' Starring Robert Pattinson

nullWith David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" set to premiere in a couple of weeks at the Cannes Film Festival and then hit theaters in France on May 25th, the big question has been: when are we going to get it? Well the good news is that the film's North American rights have now been snapped up.

EOne (aka Entertainment One) has landed the picture in a pricey $2 million dollar deal that will surely put some added glow around the flick before it lands on the Croisette. EOne plans to handle distribution in both Canada and the United States.

As you already know, the film is based on the book by Don DeLillo and centers on 24 hours in the life of billionaire Eric Packer who is having a surreal day, to put it lightly. The first clip landed online earlier today and if anything, it highlights that his won't be for mainstream audiences (the trailers did a pretty good job of making that notion clear as well). But could this be a cult hit? Cronenberg certainly has the fanbase, while it remains to be seen if Twihards will care. Yes, there are dedicated RPatz fans who would watch him clean a closet for two hours, but porting over a tween franchise crowd to an auteur freak fest is probably not gonna happen. But should the word be good out of the fest, the buzz around the movie could be considerable, which will certainly pay off down the line. [Deadline]
