As fans of ‘80s and ‘90s muscle-bound action flicks brace themselves for the upcoming “Rambo: Last Blood,” they can temporarily find satisfaction with the latest film in another Sylvester Stallone franchise. No, not ‘Rocky.’ Nope, not ‘The Expendables.’ We’re talking the relatively recent ‘Escape Plan’ series.
As seen in the trailer for “The Escape Plan: The Extractors,” Stallone is teaming up with the latest, greatest action star Dave Bautista to bring ‘90s-style bloodsoaked action to audiences in 2019. The trailer tries to lay the foundation for some sort of plot, but the basics are that Stallone’s girlfriend is captured by bad guys. He gets mad, brings along some buddies, and whoops all sorts of ass. I’m no ‘Escape Plan’ connoisseur, but it sure does feel like the franchise has veered quite a bit away from the “Hey, we need to get out of this prison” plot that made the first so interesting. But hey, I’m always down for some macho “everybody has to die” action.

Joining Stallone and Bautista in the film are Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Jaime King, and Devon Sawa. ‘Extractors’ comes from “2 Days in the Valley” co-writer-director John Herzfeld, with Miles Chapman providing some additional writing help.
“The Escape Plan: The Extractors” arrives on VOD and Blu-ray on July 2.
Here’s the synopsis:
Screen legend Sylvester Stallone kicks this explosive action tale into high gear. After security expert Ray Breslin (Stallone) is hired to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a Hong Kong tech mogul from a formidable Latvian prison, Breslin’s girlfriend (Jaime King) is also captured.
