The “Sinister” gang is getting back together again! That’s right, director Scott Derrickson, writer C. Robert Cargill, and actor Ethan Hawke are teaming up one more time for another horror film titled “The Black Phone.”

According to Deadline, Hawke has been set to lead the cast of “The Black Phone,” the latest film from director Scott Derrickson and his co-writing partner, C. Robert Cargill. The film is based on a short story from b. Though the plot details of the film are being kept under wraps, the short story follows a guy who is being held in a basement by his captor. Nothing else is down there except for an antique phone that rings every night with the voices of the dead. So yeah, pretty creepy stuff. Jeremy Davies is also in the cast.
As mentioned, this is a reunion of sorts for Derrickson, Cargill, and Hawke, who worked together on the horror film “Sinister.” That film was a breakout feature for Derrickson, which led him to land the role as director of “Doctor Strange” for Marvel Studios. Recently, “Sinister” was scientifically “proven” to be the “ultimate horror movie” in terms of how audiences react to the scares. Basically, if you haven’t seen it, you should probably check it out.

“The Black Phone” is produced by Blumhouse, which is a company that Hawke has extensive experience with in the past. In addition to producing “Sinister,” Blumhouse also has worked with Hawke on “The Purge” and the recent Showtime limited series, “The Good Lord Bird.” And in terms of studios making horror movies today, Blumhouse has become the go-to brand-name for quality frights with films like “Halloween,” “Paranormal Activity,” “Get Out,” and “The Invisible Man.”
Filming on “The Black Phone” is expected to begin next month. With how quickly these films come together from Blumhouse, we can probably expect the feature sometime later this year.
