The divisive Gregg Araki has continued casting his next effort, “White Bird In A Blizzard,” with the inclusion of “Law & Order: SVU” star Christopher Meloni and a pair of talented actresses.
Written and directed — as always — by Araki, 'White Bird' follows previously-cast "The Descendants" star Shailene Woodley (who will presumably be fitting this indie gig in before "The Amazing Spider-Man 2") as a young woman whose mother disappears, turning her life upside down. That’s pretty much all we know about the story at this point, but with Araki at the helm it’s sure to be more complicated. Meloni takes the male lead in the film (as Woodley's Dad, perhaps?), with Eva Green, Gabourey Sidibe and Shiloh Fernandez coming on in support (but no word on their roles). It's a pretty solid bunch of players all around.
Araki’s filmography has always focused on young people, and he’s worked with rising stars before — he cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt way back in 2004 for “Mysterious Skin” — so it’ll be interesting to see what he does with Woodley. No word on when production will begin, but we presume fairly soon. [Deadline]
