Update: We’ve been informed that despite some earlier reports, Juliette Binoche is not part of the cast.
While Leos Carax — perhaps best known for previous efforts such as “Pola X,” “Mauvais Sang” and his segment in the omnibus “Tokyo!” — nearly done lensing his next feature length film “Holly Motors,” he’s adding the starriest cast member yet to help get it across the finish line.
Eva Mendes will join Juliette Binoche and Kylie Minogue in the last segment to shoot for the uniquely structured film reports Allocine. The film, set it the near future, centers around a character played by Dennis Lavant, who travels between different lives, including that of a murderer, beggar, CEO, monstrous creature and father of a family. Each cast member is playing a different role in the various “lives” of the central character, though exact details on the roles or plot are hard to come by. Jean-François Balmer rounds out the cast.
No word on release dates or anything else but the movie seems like a strong possibility for Cannes, particularly since Carax was in the mix for the Palme D’or in 1999 for “Pola X” and won Award For The Youth in 1984 for “Boy Meets Girl.” For Mendes, this continues her more indie minded streak of late — barring her cameo of “Fast Five” — which saw her appear in the relationship drama “Last Night” earlier this year, take a part in the forthcoming “The Place Beyond The Pines” with Ryan Gosling and now a role in this auteur’s film. Certainly another interesting choice for the actress, and given the line up of talent assembled, we’re definitely curious.
