With a domestic box-office haul of nearly $60 million in two weeks, on a budget of $31 million, it should come no surprise that the idea of a “This is the End” sequel is being entertained. But with the comedy already dealing with the apocalypse and loaded with tons of celebrity cameos, is there much creative room for a sequel? Evan Goldberg seems to thinks so.
In a conversation with Screen Daily the co-writer and co-director talked about the odds of a sequel happening, saying “If you ask me, I’d say there’s a good chance of [a] sequel. If you ask Seth [Rogen], he’d say no. So, we’ll see.”
Goldberg went on to add that there have been discussions between himself and Rogen about possible plot lines for a sequel, and it includes bringing back many of the cameos from the time first time around. Needless to say, if you haven’t seen the movie yet, you might want to stop reading right here. But even with some characters possibly returning, Goldberg and Rogen want to switch up some of those personalities, with a concept that is even more meta than the last time.
“We actually talked about doing a sequel where it starts at the premiere of ‘This is the End.’ Seth’s a cokehead in this version, Michael Cera is a calm dude with a boyfriend, Rihanna and The Backstreet Boys are back. We have a lot of ideas: a heaven and hell, for example, and a game of Eden version where Danny [McBride] is Adam,” Goldberg shared.
Though we were disappointed by “This is the End,” we’re still fans of everyone involved and hope that if a sequel does happen, Rogen and Goldberg will knock it out of the park. But do you think this comedy needs a followup? Let us know below.
