With all this talk of bloggers and journos jumping the gun and reporting stories that haven’t been confirmed (in fact Variety wrote three stories about this, the general decay of ethics, the nastiness and the narcissistic ego of the blogosphere today), it’s deliciously ironic to note even the horses mouth sources delivering the “confirmations” can fuck up and be wrong too.
Last Wednesday, (!) Sylvester Stallone himself, the director and lead actor of “The Expendables,” emailed Ain’t It Cool to say, yes Forest Whitaker had dropped out of the action B-movie, but however, he’d already found a replacement in rapper 50 Cent, née Curtis Jackson. Sly confirmed the news himself. You can’t get more accurate than that, right?
Well, wrong. Apparently Stallone — who actually went out of his way to publicly defend the casting choice of the rapper — already changed his tune/got his facts straight yesterday (or at least for the time being). Now, the action star and filmmaker says 50 Cent is out of “The Expendables” and instead Terry Crews (“Norbit,” the president in “Idiocracy”) is in, proving that no one really has the facts these days and everybody’s speaking out of turn.
Sly gave no reason for 50 Cent’s replacement (or AICN didn’t print one), but presumably, he enthusiastically confirmed the news prematurely before a contract was signed. Just like bloggers! [AICN]
