Kevin Feige may not want audiences to know this, but there’s more going on at the local cinema than the latest MCU release. And Marvel may indeed own a large swathe of the Hollywood landscape today, but they don’t have a monopoly on everything — not even the multiverse.

Enter Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, also known as Daniels, with their newest film, “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” An interdimensional action movie all its own, the film opens this year’s SXSW festival on March 11. And what’s at stake in this multiverse saga? For one thing, the fate of all possible worlds, but an exhausted Michelle Yeoh also just wants to file her taxes.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
An aging Chinese immigrant is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have led. Unfortunately, this sweeps her up into an even bigger adventure when she finds herself lost in the infinite worlds of the multiverse.
“Everything” also stars Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jenny Slate, and Jonathan Ke Quan. James Hong, Andy Le, Brian Le, and Harry Shum Jr. round out the main cast.
The film sees editor Paul Rogers return to work with Daniels after 2019’s “The Death Of Dick Long.” Cinematographer Larkin Seiple, who worked with the pair on 2016’s “Swiss Army Man,” also returns. Brother filmmaking duo Anthony & Joe Russo pitch in as co-producers. Also of note: American experimental band Son Lux composes the film’s score. Guest spots on the score include, among others, David Byrne, André 3000, and Randy Newman.
How will audiences take to this multiverse alternative? Well, it’s already been a massive hit at the SXSW Film Festival, and our reviewer Robert Daniels described it as a “bold, and boundless multiverse spectacle.” “Everything Everywhere All At Once” also hits theaters on March 25, courtesy of A24.
