As long as Ewan McGregor has a movie to promote, he’ll keep being asked about returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the “Star Wars” franchise, and the internet will keep printing what he says. That’s just how it works. But even the actor doesn’t quite get what has fans so hot and bothered about his character.
“I like the films that I made with George Lucas and I’m happy to be part of the legend of it all, but that’s it with me. I don’t really understand the fanaticism about it,” he told Parade earlier this year, adding: “…I’ve been asked about it so much now that I’m being criticized for trying to persuade Disney to make this movie! I only responded to people asking me about it, and now it looks like I’m sort of looking for work, which is humiliating.”

Still, he doesn’t help himself when he starts pitching his own ideas for new movies, as he recently did with Premiere (via Den Of Geek).
“I’ve always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness’ first one,” McGregor said (a sentiment he has expressed previously), going on to exclaim: “It would be fun to film that story now I’m older…I hope that they’re going to explore different genres under the ‘Star Wars’ banner. And one of those could be an Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film. Or two! The Obi-Wan Kenobi Story Part 1 and Part 2!”
We’re sure Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy is hearing him loud and clear, and who knows, perhaps one day that’ll happen. Though at this rate, maybe McGregor should just start writing the script himself.
