In October, Lionsgate will release Scott Derickson's low-budget shocker, "Sinister," a super fun and occasionally very scary horror film starring Ethan Hawke as a true crime author desperate to recapture the fame he experienced as a young writer. So desperate, in fact, that he moves his entire family into a house where a savage murder spree recently took place, where a family, much like his own, was brutally killed. From there things get considerably spookier, with Hawke uncovering a malevolent evil lurking in a series of film canisters in the house's attic. Today we get to exclusively debut a pair of spooky new stills from the movie, ones that might just haunt your dreams.
The first photo shows Hawke's young son Trevor (Michael Hall D'Addario), who is contorting himself into a very uncomfortable position, because he suffers from night terrors… Or is it the evil force that is gripping the house? Maybe a little bit of both? The second photo is from the same scene, after Hawke has taken hold of the boy (that's British actress Juliet Rylance as Hawke's understanding wife). What's so great about both of these shots is that they're aged to look like weathered film.
That's one of the more clever aspects of "Sinister" – it examines our fascination with "found footage" films and the history of celluloid, in the way that it captures memories, emotions and sometimes….something more…. And if you want to be one of the very first to see "Sinister" (and trust us, you do), log on to SeeSinisterFirst to find out where it's playing near you. And if there isn't a screening happening in your hometown, then you can request one as well. Otherwise, you can check "Sinister" out when it opens on October 5th.
