Even if you don’t know the name, you’d likely recognize David Dastmalchian. He’s bagged roles in movies like Christopher Nolan‘s "The Dark Knight" and Denis Villeneuve‘s "Prisoners," and later this summer you’ll see him in "Ant-Man." He’s also a budding screenwriter, and his latest film "Animals" made its debut last spring at SXSW where he received a Special Jury Award for Courage In Storytelling. This weekend, you can see what impressed the jury in Austin.
Starring Dastmalchian alongside Kim Shaw with Collin Schiffli directing, the film tracks a Chicago couple weighted down by addiction and a life-altering setback. And as you’ll see in this clip, it’s a highly visual effort that gets up close with the characters, from swooning highs to bottomless lows.
"Animals" opens in limited release on May 15th. Watch below.
