Rising composers Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans have started to make quite a name for themselves, tuning up recent indie hits “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and “Simon Killer.” And in keeping with their knack of lending an eerie, edgy texture to stories off the conventional path, they’ve once again conjured up something unique for an upcoming thriller.
Bensi and Jurriaans are the team behind the score for “Prisoners” director Denis Villeneuve‘s “Enemy” starring Jake Gyllenhaal in the dual lead role. The film, about a professor who tries to find out the identity behind his doppelganger, is given an extra offbeat air thanks to the composers’ work, which we described as an “atonal A-game of discordant cellos and oblique half notes that would make Jonny Greenwood proud, and keeps the movie tilted on its discomfiting axis.” And below, you can get a taste of their work with three exclusive tracks from the soundtrack, running over ten minutes long: “The Dark Room,” “Helen” and “Theraphosi Blondi.” It’s pretty terrific stuff.
