Soundtracks don’t get much better or more distinct than Nick Cave and Warren Ellis‘ work as such. The duo has contributed music to films like “Lawless,” “The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford,” “The Road,” “The Proposition,” among others. Their work is often evocatively haunting, gritty and intimate, and they bring those qualities to their latest effort on behalf of “Hell Or High Water.”
The new film from director David Mackenzie stars Chris Pine, Ben Foster and Jeff Bridges in a story of two brothers —a straight-living, divorced father trying to make a better life for his son, and a short-tempered ex-con with a itchy trigger finger— who come together to rob the bank that is foreclosing on their family land. The hold-ups are part of a last-ditch scheme to take back a future that powerful forces beyond their control have stolen, but the pair soon find themselves on a collision course with a relentless, foul- mouthed Texas Ranger looking for one last triumph on the eve of his retirement. An atmosphere of dusty dread can be felt in the exclusive soundtrack cuts below, “Mountain Lion Mean” and “Robbery.”
The album will be released on August 12th by Milan Records (pre-order it on iTunes now), the same day as the platform release of the movie by CBS Films, with “Hell Or High Water” expanding nationwide thereafter.
