The Toronto International Film Festival is just weeks away, with literally hundreds of movies slated to premiere, making their first appearances to both the public and critics. While there are plenty of high profile titles many will be flocking to, one of the true pleasures of the festival going experience is discovering under the radar movies that surprise. Will “Proxy” be one of those movies? Slated in the Vanguard program of the fest that promises “provocative, sexy…and possibly dangerous” entries, it’s one to keep an eye on.

Co-written and directed by Zack Parker, the film stars Alexia Rasmussen, Alexa Havins, Kristina Klebe and indie veteran Joe Swanberg, and the story sees an attack on a young woman forever changing her life in unexpected ways. As this exclusive and challenging festival poster for “Proxy” reveals, the stakes appear to be very high. Here’s the official synopsis:

While walking home from her latest OB appointment, a very pregnant Esther Woodhouse is brutally attacked and disfigured by a hooded assailant. This horrible event seems to be a blessing in disguise when Esther finds consolation in a support group. Her life of sadness and solitude is opened up to friendship, understanding, and even acceptance. However, friendship and understanding can be very dangerous things when accepted by the wrong people.
