Exclusive: Tattoos Tell A Story In Clip From Belgium's Oscar Entry 'Broken Circle Breakdown'

Broken Circle Breakdown

With the days getting shorter, and the months colder, it means it’s the season for thoughtful dramas and character-driven stories at the movies. It also means that with the awards season in full swing, some of the best movies from around the world will be getting a chance to shine, and one that has picked up buzz all year long is “Broken Circle Breakdown.” After winning awards at both the Berlin Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival (among others), you’ll finally get a chance to experience for yourself what all the good word has been about.

Starring Veerle Baetens and Johan Heldenbergh, and co-written and directed by Felix Van Groeningen, the film tells the tale of Elise and Didier, a tattoo artist and bluegrass musician, who fall head-over-heels in love at first sight. They bond quickly, with their romance moving seemingly unstoppable until a tragedy strikes, which tests everything they have built together. In this exclusive clip, we see the wonder and connection the duo share, as Veerle shows off her tattoos to Johan.

Nominated for nine Ensor Awards (Belgium’s Academy Awards), and selected by Belgium as their official Oscar entry for this year, the picture is one we said “can lift our hearts even as they are gently broken.”

“Broken Circle Breakdown” opens in select theaters on November 1st.
