Exclusive: U.S. Trailer And Poster For 'A Separation' Director Asghar Farhadi's Award Winning 'About Elly'

About EllyBefore Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi made international waves with his breakout, Oscar-winning "A Separation" (which topped our 50 Best Films Of The Decade So Far list) and his most recent picture "The Past," he was already getting on radars with "About Elly." First released in 2009, the movie picked up a brace of awards on the festival circuit, including a Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival, and Best Narrative Feature at the Tribeca Film Festival. It has taken a little while, but the film is finally getting a stateside release via Cinema Guild, and today we have the exclusive U.S. trailer and poster.

Starring Golshifteh Farahani, Taraneh Alidoosti, Mani Haghighi, Merila Zarei, Peyman Moaadi, and Shahab Hosseini, the mystery-thriller follows a group of college friends who reunite for a weekend by the Caspian Sea, only to have things take a dark turn when one of them goes missing. Here’s the synopsis:

With the return of their friend Ahmad from Germany, a group of old college pals (two married couples and a brother and sister, along with three young kids) decide to reunite for a weekend outing by the Caspian Sea. The fun starts right away as they quickly catch on to the plan of lively Sepideh, who has brought along Elly, her daughter’s kindergarten teacher, in hopes of setting her up with recently divorced Ahmad. But seemingly trivial lies, which start accumulating from the moment the group arrives at the seashore, suddenly swing round and come back full force when Elly disappears in a troubling incident.

"About Elly" opens at Film Forum in New York City on April 8th. Watch below.
