It’s always great to see films from female directors, which are too few and far between. "Apartment Troubles" features double the bang for your buck, with Jennifer Prediger ("A Teacher") and Jess Weixler ("Teeth") sharing co-screenwriting and co-directing duties on the quirky road movie. The story follows two roommates after they get evicted from their NYC apartment and head west seeking better fortunes. Megan Mullaly, Jeffrey Tambor, and Will Forte offer supporting turns, which is quite the trio of comedy heavyweights.
The film made it’s debut at the LA Film Fest last year under the title of "Trouble Dolls," and our review noted that "beneath the playful narrative and broad comic strokes, the duo manages to capture something tender about confusion and personal growth seen at different stages in life." In the exclusive clip below, you can see a bit of the dark and offbeat humor, as the plucky protagonists hitch a ride with a truly unhinged character, played by Forte doing his best as a lovable wacko.
Check out the clip and the long synopsis below. "Apartment Troubles" hits theaters and VOD platforms on March 27th.
APARTMENT TROUBLES is a story about how Olivia and Nicole are codependent roommates who are definitely going to make it; they’re just not sure how. When they get evicted from their shoebox apartment in Manhattan—conceptual art just doesn’t cover the rent–they boldly take off to L.A. for the promise of sunshine. As one door slams shut, another opens—a tarot card reading later, the duo decide to take their performance art sensibilities to the mainstream by auditioning for a reality TV talent show.
