The cancellation of “The Expanse” last year was a shocker for fans of the show, and for a good reason: It garnered an immense Rotten Tomatoes average audience score of 97 across its three seasons, and the critical rating wasn’t too shabby either at 91. Now, with the show finding a new home under the Amazon umbrella and excitement for sci-fi fare on the small screen bubbling over (See: “Westworld,” “Star Trek: Picard,” the recently-released Season 3 of “Stranger Things”), a new trailer for Season 4 of “The Expanse” that should bring fans’ excitement to fever pitch after its debut at SDCC.

Among the things the trailer encourages us to look forward to in the show’s upcoming 10-episode season, which releases Dec. 13, is the further blossoming of the show’s scope and scale into one that feels like it will travel further into, well, the expanse of space than ever before.

To keep “The Expanse” devotees excited until December, Amazon Prime also released a nearly-six-minute clip of the show. In it, the crew of the Rocinante lands on Ilus, a sequence that looks every bit as stunning as you can expect from a well-respected sci-fi show entering its fourth season.

The synopsis that accompanies the trailer reads as follows:
“With the Ring Gates now open to thousands of new planets, a blood-soaked gold rush begins, igniting new conflicts between Earth, Mars, and the Belt. Meanwhile, on one unexplored planet, the Rocinante crew gets caught in a violent clash between an Earth mining corporation, and desperate Belter settlers as deadly new threats from the protomolecule emerge.”
Much of the cast is expected to return: Cara Gee, Frankie Adams, Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and David Strathairn while adding Rosa Gilmore (“Elementary,” “The Handmaid’s Tale”), Keon Alexander (“Tyrant”), Jess Salgueiro (“Orphan Black”) and Lyndie Greenwood (“Sleepy Hollow,” Nikita”) to the mix.
Check out two teaser trailers and a clip below and btw, Amazon must like what they see because the show’s already been renewed for a fifth season without even airing yet.
