Everyone has nightmares, right? Sometimes they’re harmless, like when you dream about being surrounded by bugs or something. However, for Michael Pena’s character in “Extinction,” he dreams about the end of the world. The problem is, as real as they feel, no one believes they will ever come true.
As we see in the trailer for the new Netflix film, it seems like people shouldn’t have been so quick to dismiss those dreams. Pena’s character is vindicated, as alien spacecraft descend from the sky, and an invasion commences. The rest of the trailer is exactly what you expect from an alien invasion film. Lots of explosions. Lots of running. And not really any good looks at the otherworldly creatures. Judging by the title, things don’t turn out so well.
“Extinction” stars Pena, fresh off his scene-stealing role in Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” Joining the actor are Lizzy Caplan, Mike Colter, and Israel Broussard. The film is written by Spenser Cohen and Brad Caleb Kane, and is directed by Ben Young, who is best known for his previous film, “Hounds of Love.”
For those wanting to stay home and enjoy a brand new summer blockbuster, “Extinction” will be hitting Netflix on July 27.
Here’s the official synopsis:
A working class father of the future faces recurring dreams of destruction by an unknown force. When his unwanted nightmares begin to affect his relationship with his family, he soon realizes they may be the key to a horrible reality, as a relentless alien attack begins to destroy the Earth. As the invaders’ assault progresses, he is forced to find both the strength to protect his family and an understanding of who he truly is.
