Ezra Miller‘s already had their fair share of legal troubles this year following their recent arrests in Hawaii. But now it looks like that’s just the beginning, as newly filed court documents accuse Miller of grooming a minor since the age of 12, and using “violence, intimidation, threat of violence, fear, paranoia, delusions, and drugs to hold sway” over the young woman.
According to TMZ, Tokata Iron Eye‘s parents, attorney and activist Chase Iron Eyes, and his wife, Sara Jumping Eagle, filed the legal docs on Tuesday. The documents detail that Miller has been “psychologically manipulating, physically intimidating, and endangering the safety and welfare” of Tokata for several years. Miller and Tokata first met in 2016 at protests at the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota when Miller was 23 and Tokata was just 12. Since then, Tokata’s parents claim that Miller’s relationship with their daughter has gone from a seemingly innocent friendship to one where their daughter is constantly at risk.
After they met at Standing Rock, Miller flew Tokata and other Standing Rock tribal members out to London to visit the set of “Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them” in December 2017. During the visit, Miller attempted to sleep with the then-14 Tokata, but a chaperone prevented the two from sleeping in the same bed. Tokata’s parents claim Miller’s behavior toward their daughter escalated from there. EW reports that the legal documents accuse Miller of supplying the underage Tokata with alcohol, marijuana, and LSD. They also accuse Miller of exhibiting a “pattern of corrupting a minor” by paying for Tokata to attend a private college in Massachusetts and using that “against Tokata to create a sense of indebtedness.” In other words, Miller has groomed Tokata for over half a decade.
Tokata dropped out of school last December, and her parents state that when they went to Miller’s Vermont residence to pick their daughter up, they discovered she didn’t have their driver’s license, bank cards, keys or “any other items needed for [them] to navigate life on [their] own. They also found bruises on Tokata’s body, which they claim came from Miller. After her parents brought Tokata home in January, she soon fled to NYC to reunite with Miller. Since then, the pair have traveled to Vermont, Los Angeles, and Hawaii, which brings us up to date with Miller’s recent arrests.
EW adds that in their complaint, Tokata’s parents claim that Miller displays “cult-like and psychologically manipulative, controlling behavior” toward their daughter, as well as “classic abusive intimate partner violence behavior” and “sexual predatory behavior.” TMZ also references that Tokata’s parents claim Ezra’s told her to go by Gibson, a nickname she formerly used with family and friends. decided that Tokata should identify as non-binary transgender when she has previously identified as “non-binary, queer, gay.” So, there’s apparently a wide variety of tactics being used by Miller to both form and control Tokata’s identity.
Tokata has since made a statement about her parent’s allegations on Instagram that downplays her parent’s concern with the caption “CONTEXT.” After addressing she left school following the death of a close friend, the statement said, “”My comrade Ezra Miller for the entirety of the aforementioned era has only provided loving support and invaluable protection throughout this period of loss. I am in no way, or under any circumstance have ever been during my short lived adulthood, in need of a conservatorship. My father and his allegations hold no weight and are frankly transphobic and based in the notion that I am somehow incapable of coherent thought or opposing opinions to those of my own kindred worrying about my well being. I am now aware of the severity of emotional and psychological manipulation I was made to endure while in my parents home.”
Tokata’s mother, Sarah Jumping Eagle, responded to Tokata’s statement on Twitter (see below), saying that the teen hasn’t had access to their phone since January, and Miller is “controlling” Tokata’s Instagram account.
There’s no word on what Warner Bros. Discovery thinks about these recent allegations against Miller. However, considering the studios already wants to “hit pause” on future projects with Miller following his arrests in March, it’s safe to say the actor’s future in Hollywood is very, very shaky at the moment.
