It’s been a while since we’ve been truly excited about an Ezra Miller project. Outside of a minor role in Judd Apatow’s “Trainwreck,” Miller has been stuck in franchise hell the last several years with multiple appearances in DC films like “Justice League,” “Suicide Squad,” and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” He also appears in the new ‘Harry Potter’ franchise “Fantastic Beasts.” But now, he’s signed on to star in a film that has really caught our eye.
According to Deadline, Miller has signed on to play Salvador Dali in filmmaker Mary Harron’s upcoming film “Dali Land.” The actor will play a young Dali in flashbacks, while Ben Kingsley will play the artist in his later years. The film is set in New York and Spain in 1973 and follows gallery assistant James as he helps Dali prepare for a huge show. The cast also includes great actors like Lesley Manville, Tim Roth, and Frank Dillane, who will play Dali’s assistant, James.
“Dali Land” is directed by Harron from a script she co-wrote with John C. Walsh. Harron is coming off directing a Charles Manson film titled “Charlie Says,” and working on the Netflix show “Alias Grace.” But she’s best known for directing “American Psycho.”
As we talked about above, Miller is still stuck in between franchises and will be seen next in the upcoming “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” and the “Flash” film for DC. That is if Warner Bros. and DC actually go through with the film, as it’s had more starts and stops than most projects. But as you probably know, the actor has standout performances in films like “We Need To Talk About Kevin,” “Afterschool,” and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
No word on when “Dali Land” will be released. The film is one of many high-profile projects that’s being sold at Cannes this year.
