'Falcon & The Winter Soldier': Marvel's Disney+ Series Arrives Fall 2020

We know that Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will officially reprise their roles as Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) in “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” and tonight at Comic-Con, one new detail was unveiled: the series will be the first to arrive on Disney+ in the fall of 2021.

Confirmed to be joining the cast is Daniel Bruhl playing the character Helmut Zemo, the Sokovian citizen turned-terrorist mastermind who engineered the rift between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers in “Captain America: Civil War.” Emily VanCamp is said to play Sharon Carter, SHIELD agent, and grandniece of Peggy Carter, though was not confirmed by Marvel.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Malcolm Spellman (“Empire”) had been hired to write “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” and since then “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad was added to the writer’s room instead. TV veteran director Kari Skogland (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) will direct all six episodes of the series.

Disney+ is confirmed to launch on November 12, so it looks like we may have to wait around a year from launch for the series, but it’s in play and moving forward. Today, Mackie told MTV that he tried on the new Captain America suit (see below) though interestingly, it didn’t really make room for Falcon’s wings, something that is merged in the comics.

The show is called”The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” but it’s likely going to be about Sam Wilson assuming the role of Captain America, and if I were a betting man, I’d say a series that explores the emotional and spiritual burden of taking on the mantle and responsibility.
