As expected, the final wave of films announced for the 2018 Fantastic Fest features a few surprises, including some highly-anticipated films finally making their way to the US.
The big news, however, is that Fantastic Fest announced its closing night film, which happens to be the upcoming Drew Goddard-directed “Bad Times at the El Royale,” which has an all-star cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm, and Dakota Johnson. But for those hoping to find some films that have been highlights of the festival circuit this year, never fear! Fantastic Fest has you covered.
Making their way across the Atlantic, after massive Cannes debuts, Fantastic Fest is presenting the North American premiere of Terry Gilliam’s “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” and the US premiere of David Robert Mitchell’s “Under the Silver Lake.” Both are highly-anticipated titles that fans in the States have been anxious to see.
But if you’re more interested in a couple recent premieres, this year’s Fest will also include the Oscar contender “Destroyer” from filmmaker Karyn Kusama and star Nicole Kidman, as well as Jonah Hill’s “mid90s.” Rounding out the exciting slate of announced films is the US premiere of horror film “The Wind,” as well as the world premiere of the six-part animated “Tenacious D in Post-Apocalypto,” if that’s your thing.
“Fantastic Fest” runs from September 20 to 27 in Austin, Texas.
