Director Justin Lin isn’t messing around with “Fast & Furious 10.” The filmmaker has already cast “Aquaman” actor Jason Momoa as the villain and is seemingly looking to grab every rising star he can. While franchise star Vin Diesel is trying his best to guilt Dwayne Johnson (“Hobbs & Shaw”) into returning via a bizarre social media post, the cast is filling out just fine without him, and they’ve recruited yet another familiar face from the DCEU.
The Wrap has revealed that Portuguese actress Daniela Melchior is now in talks for an undisclosed part in the latest installment from Universal Pictures.
Melchior is a bit of a newcomer who landed a big breakout role as Ratcatcher II in James Gunn’s DC Comics sequel “The Suicide Squad.” While that film had a huge cast, Melchior really popped and held her own alongside co-stars Idris Elba and John Cena, who have also been previously part of the “Fast & Furious” universe playing villains.
Speaking of Diesel’s attempt to lure Johnson back for the sequel, the actor told CNN in December he wasn’t budging and wished everyone luck on the film. While pointing out Diesel’s “manipulation” was on full display.
“Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding. My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise with gratitude and grace. It’s unfortunate that this public dialogue has muddied the waters. Regardless, I’m confident in the ‘Fast’ universe and its ability to consistently deliver for the audience, and I truly wish my former co-stars and crew members the best of luck and success in the next chapter.”
It’s expected that returning cast members will include Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Sung Kang.
“Fast and Furious 10” is expected to speed into theaters on May 19, 2023.
