Fear Is Not Real: Watch The Trailer For Will & Jaden Smith's 'After Earth' Directed By M. Night Shyamalan

nullSo, did the trailer for "Oblivion" not fill your appetite for futursitic sci-fi in which Earth is no longer as it seems? Well, get comfortable because Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith have teamed up with M. Night Shyamalan for "After Earth" and after this first trailer….we're not quite sure what it's about….

What we do know is that the film is set 1,000 years after cataclysmic events force humanity’s escape from Earth to Nova Prime. Will Smith plays General Cypher Raige (lol) who returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (Jaden). But when When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash land on Earth, and with father dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon.

On the plus side, the movie looks impressive enough, and after the visual diarrhea that was "The Last Airbender," it's nice to know that Shyamalan — who has always been a strong visualist — has got his groove back. And a budget to work with. On the other hand, those accents the Smiths are putting on are distracting as hell. We're already in a future world, do we need to have….Southern?….accents as well? It seems an odd choice, and we're still left waiting to be excited by this one. However, at least there will be no evil trees this time….right?

"After Earth" orbits on June 7, 2013. Watch below. [The Film Stage]
