Will Ferrell is an actor that people tend to love or hate. Appearing in a variety of comedies, he’s known for his strange, wild characters and slapstick humor. There’s no better proof of his comedic prowess than by looking at his last several films, which include “Daddy’s Home” (1 and 2), “The House,” “Zoolander 2,” “Get Hard,” and “The Lego Movie.” Will Ferrell is definitely known for a very specific type of humor. So, clearly, he’s a perfect fit for a Gus Van Sant film, right?

According to a recent interview, in Interview Magazine, Ferrell says he hopes to be working with the “Good Will Hunting” director shortly on a project. For context, the interview in question is with Ferrell and Joaquin Phoenix, where Ferrell is interviewing Phoenix about his upcoming Gus Van Sant film, “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.”
When asked by Phoenix how he saw the film, Ferrell replied, “I’m hopefully going to do something with Gus, and he screened it for me. Fingers crossed. I’ve always loved everything he’s done, and now to spend some time with him—what a cool dude.”
For those unfamiliar with Van Sant’s work, the filmmaker has made the award-winning films “Good Will Hunting” and “Milk,” but is also known for “Elephant” (about a school shooter), “Drugstore Cowboy” (about drug addicts), and “The Sea of Trees” (about the famous “suicide forest” in Japan). So, news of a Will Ferrell collaboration definitely raises some eyebrows.
However, this isn’t completely crazy to imagine. Just recently, with ‘Don’t Worry,’ Van Sant collaborated with comedians Jonah Hill and Jack Black. Also, Ferrell has flirted with awards recognition himself for his work in “The Producers” and “Stranger Than Fiction,” which earned the actor two Golden Globe nominations.
Obviously, we have no idea when, or if, the Van Sant/Ferrell collab will go down, but the mind races with possibilities about what a potential project from the director and comedian would look like.
