Shawn Levy may not be one of the most popular directors in Hollywood by film nerds with access to a keyboard and a "comment" button, but that doesn’t seem to make it any tougher for the man to find work. His films are largely forgettable, but anyone who has ever come into contact with the man will attest to the fact that his enthusiasm is infectious, and you’d have to imagine that comes across in the meetings he takes. If IMDb is to be believed, Levy currently has 28 films (give or take) in development (as either a director or producer), and while a handful of those may never come to pass you wouldn’t bet against the majority.
Well, you can add one more because THR reports that Paramount is in negotiations to pick up a spec script called “Monster Problems” for Levy and his 21 Laps production banner to produce. The script comes from a chap called Brian Duffield who got Hollywood’s attention when his script for “Jane Got a Gun” turned up on the Black List (which Lynne Ramsey is attached to direct with Natalie Portman starring), and his rom-com “Your Bridesmaid’s a Bitch” is also making its way to production.
The project is described as “a post-apocalyptic road movie in the vein of 'Mad Max' and 'Zombieland' with a John Hughes-esque love story at its center.” So that’s Shawn Levy does “The Road” then. With so many projects on his slate, don’t expect Levy to direct or even be that hands on as a producer. He’s got “Interns” with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson shooting this summer, and then there’s “Real Steel 2,” “The 39 Clues,” “The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto,” “Fantastic Voyage,” an untitled “Frankenstein” film and “Cheaper by the Dozen 3” all to direct. Okay, we may have made one of those up…
