After years and years in development, with lots of false starts, legal battles, and a rotating list of directors (Antoine Fuqua, Carl Franklin, and John Singleton among them) it’s hard to believe that not only did the Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez On Me” get in front of cameras, that the first trailer is actually here. And even more, it actually looks pretty good (though that title logo is pretty egregious).

Directed by music video helmer Benny Boom, newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr. plays the hip hop legend, who was tragically gunned down and killed in 1996, in a case that remains unsolved. But this promo seems to suggest that at least some kind of theory will be floated, which should certainly be interesting. As for the rest of the cast, it includes “The Walking Dead” star Danai Gurai as Tupac’s mother, Dominic L. Satana as Suge Knight, and Jamal Woolard once again playing Biggie Smalls, after leading that rapper’s biopic “Notorious” in 2009.
“All Eyez On Me” opens on November 11th, which seems to suggest that Open Road Films thinks this might have some awards season potential.
