First Images From Coens-Produced 'Fargo' TV Series Starring Martin Freeman

While the idea of trying a new spin on the old classic that is the Coen Brothers‘ “Fargo” might seem like a crass idea, the upcoming FX TV series isn’t the first time it’s been attempted. About a decade ago, a spinoff was mounted starring Edie Falco and directed by Kathy Bates (!). It never went anywhere, but that version didn’t involve the Coens. This time, the director siblings are producing, and the project not only has a firm green light, it’s coming to a small screen near you very soon.

Yahoo has the first images from “Fargo,” and a few new morsels about the series that has been keeping details under wraps. The show won’t be a remake exactly, so much as an inspired riff, set this time Bemidji, Minnesota (yes, it’s a real place) with Deputy Molly Solverson (Allison Tolman) investigating a new crime, likely involving Bilbo himself, Martin Freeman, who plays Lester Nygard (based on William H. Macy‘s Jerry Lundegaard).

The ingredients are here for something special along with a great cast—Colin Hanks, Billy Bob Thornton, Bob Odenkirk, Kate Walsh, Joey King and Oliver Platt—but can that specific Coen magic be duplicated? Tune in to FX this spring to find out.
