First Images Of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw & Jim Broadbent In 'Cloud Atlas'

null“[The movie explores] the idea of being reborn and souls being reborn through time,” Hugo Weaving recently told THR about "Cloud Atlas." When was the last time a big studio movie tackled that kind of subject matter? Well, the trick here is that The Wachowskis ambitious adaptation of David Mitchell's "Cloud Atlas" was actually financed independently from a number of production companies worldwide, giving the helmers, who teamed up with Tom Tykwer, the creative space to tell their tale.

Featuring a sprawling cast that includes Tom Hanks, Hugh Grant, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy and more with various actors taking wild, unexpected, multiple roles — Grant will rape and kill; Berry plays a 1930s Jewish woman; Sarandon is an indian man — no matter how it turns out, it will certainly be memorable. Here's the official synopsis: The powerful, inspiring epic Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.

These first images from EW certainly show some of these stars like we've never seen them before, in a story that Lana Wachowski confirms will span a considerable length of time. “We thought about these individual characters as aspects of larger characters,” she said. “Their lives are interwoven over one big story that takes place over a thousand years.”

The film makes its world premiere at TIFF, and will open on October 26th.null
