We gotta admit, Alden Ehrenreich as a potential franchise star for a series of young adult books leaping to the big screen, is still a hard concept to adjust to. But like it or not, it's coming, and the actor, who has mostly been playing around with the Coppolas ("Tetro," "Twixt," "Somewhere"), could be a name girls start writing on their binders with hearts around it (do kids even use binders these days?).
EW has the first look at Ehrenreich with newcomer Alice Englert in Richard LaGravanese's "Beautiful Creatures." Based on the novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the film will follow Ethan Wate (Ehrenreich) and Lena Duchannes (Englert), two teens in the deep south who are drawn together by a strange connection and supernatural secrets. Looks romantic! Or possibly a total nightmare if you're allergic to pollen. But clearly, there is going to be a strong relationship at the center of the tale.
And perhaps that's why Warner Bros. has tweaked the release date, pushing it back one week to February 15, 2013. Looks like you know what movie you're taking your dates to, guys. Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis, Emma Thompson, Emmy Rossum, Thomas Mann and Kyle Gallner round out the cast.
