While we still wait and see what will be unveiled this year at the Cannes Film Festival — we've taken a look at the contenders here — one film that is already tipped to appear is the latest from "4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days" helmer Cristian Mungiu. "Beyond The Hills" was recently snapped up by Sundance Selects, and now we've got our first look at the movie from our friends at Flix.
Though there is still no word yet on the cast, this latest effort is a Romania-set, based-on-a-true-story tale that follows Alina, a young woman who returns to her home country after living in Germany and reunites with a friend that she has known for years since their childhood in the same orphanage. The friend now lives in a rural Orthodox monastery, and turns down Alina's request to come back with her to Germany, having found a family with the nuns and priests. From here, we won't spoil it, but the story takes a dramatic turn that eventually involves a police investigation.
No word on a release date, but depending on the reception at Cannes, we presume we'll see it this year. Images below.
