First Look At Tom Hanks & Newcomer Thomas Horn In 'Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close'

Plus Gwyenth Paltrow In ‘Contagion’ And Jon Bon Jovi & Lea Michele In ‘New Year’s Eve’

A few bits and pieces of candy for your eyeballs as Warner Bros. has released new pics from some of their upcoming films. Let’s get to it.

Oscar season is right around the corner, but for WB, their Oscar horses, “Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close” and “J. Edgar” are still getting to the finish line, so marketing them in full force will have to wait just a short minute. But to get things rolling, the studio has released the first look at Tom Hanks and newcomer and former “Jeopardy!” champion Thomas Horn in the film. Based on the book by Jonathan Safran Foer, the story focuses on Oskar Schell (Horn), a nine-year-old boy from Manhattan whose father died on 9/11. Two years later, the boy discovers a key belonging to his father, which sends him on a search through the city, believing it will lead to a final message from his deceased parent. Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks play his parents, John Goodman plays a doorman who aids Schell on his quest, and Viola Davis, Jeffrey Wright, Max Von Sydow and James Gandolfini round out the cast. Feel a slight tickle in your throat? It could be a cold or it could be something far more deadly. If you’re a hypochondriac, this movie may not be for you, but for the rest of us Steven Soderbergh‘s “Contagion” is high on our fall “must-see” list. The grim, reality-based thriller is set against the backdrop of a worldwide pandemic that sees people starting to drop like flies. One of the first ones to get it? Gwyneth Paltrow. Here’s a picture of her innocuously blowing on something but properly spreading god knows what kind of germs along in the process. Gross dude. Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Bryan Cranston, John Hawkes, Elliott Gould, Demetri Martin and Jennifer Ehle feature among the ensemble of the film that will premiere at the Venice Film Festival later this month before hitting theaters on September 9th.

And finally, the one movie that strangely obsessed this writer with every casting move — if only because they were so strange — a first look at Lea Michele and Jon Bon Jovi has arrived from the upcoming holiday rom-com “New Year’s Eve.” We don’t even know what to say about this movie but we’ll use this opportunity to ask: is anyone else freaked out by that HP tablet ad Michele does? And while we’re on the subject, is Russell Brand really so hard up that he had to do one too? Anyway, we’re digressing. The massive, random cast includes Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Abigail Breslin, Ludacris, Josh Duhamel, Zac Efron, Katherine Heigl, Ashton Kutcher, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfieffer, Hilary Swank, Sofia Vergara, Seth Myers, Til Schweiger, Robert De Niro, Ice Cube, Carla Gugino, Sienna Miller, John Lithgow and Julie Andrews and it opens on December 9th.
