First Look: Charlie Cox As Marvel’s 'Dardevil'; Rosario Dawson’s Role Will Have Overlap With Luke Cage

Daredevil, MarvelMarvel’s “Daredevil” may be the man without fear, but some fans are already nervous. The upcoming “Daredevil” series, which will air exclusively on Netflix exclusively starting next May, revealed its first official photos this weekend at New York Comic Con. But, the photos don’t show Daredevil (played by former “Boardwalk Empire” star Charlie Cox) in his regular costume. Instead, the anti-hero vigilante was more in a proto-Daredevil get-up, not unlike when Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne hit Gotham at night in dark garb before he had created the Batsuit. As you might expect, it sent some fanboys on a freak out. But as usual, relax. The Netflix series will be a 13-episode arc and it’s possible you may not even see Daredevil in the classic costume until the series is over. For all we know, it’s an extended origin story (which would make sense as a TV drama).

Additional details came out at NYCC via Shadow & Act. Actor Vondie Curtis-Hall was announced as part of the cast, and he’ll play Ben Urich, a "chain-smoking, tough-as-nails investigative journalist for The Daily Bugle." Urich eventually goes on to find out the secret identity of Daredevil, aka blind lawyer Matt Murdock. The show also stars the previously announced Vincent D’Onofrio, Scott Glenn, Deborah Ann Woll, and Elden Henson, but what of Rosario Dawson in her unknown role?

During the NYCC panel, it was revealed that Dawson plays Claire Temple, who is a romantic interest of Marvel hero Luke Cage. Cage is one of the four Marvel-lead TV series’ that Netflix will debut over the next four years, so it appears that the studio is already building the interconnective tissue to tie their small-screen universe together.

In case you’re unaware, "Daredevil" follows the adventures of Matt Murdock, blinded as a young boy in a accident that inadvertently imbued him with extraordinary senses. Now fighting against injustice as a lawyer by day, at night Murdock is the super hero Daredevil, who fights crime in a modern day Hell’s Kitchen in New York City.

Following "Daredevil," Marvel and Netflix will release series based on the characters "Jessica Jones," "Iron Fist," and the aforementioned "Luke Cage." Check out the first images, and watch the full 45 minute NYCC "Daredevil" press conference below, along with other highlights.
