Marvel is coming to premium cable. The comic book studio has played more mainstream on ABC, pushed the envelope on Netflix, and is gearing up to go into grittier territory on FX with “Legion.” And the show is now officially coming.
The network has ordered up a slim, eight-episode first season. Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart, and Rachel Keller will star in the show that will center on David Haller, the son of Charles Xavier and Gabrielle Haller, and a diagnosed schizophrenic, who discovers the voices he hears and visions he sees might actually be real after all. Like father, like son? Meanwhile, Plaza will play Haller’s bud Lenny, Smart will be his therapist Melanie, while Keller has a secret role that’s said will be a mix of Rogue and Spyke.
“Fargo” guru Noah Hawley is shepherding the project. The pilot has already been shot, and the drama is expected to debut in 2017. Check out the first look from “Legion” below. [THR]
