While Fox Searchlight has their horses for this year’s Oscar race with the embattled “The Birth Of A Nation” and “Jackie,” it’s never too early to start planning for next year, and it’s a safe bet that at least for now, their untitled biopic on “Winnie The Pooh” author A.A. Milne is a contender. And with cameras now rolling, the first images from the drama have arrived via USA Today.
Directed by Simon Curtis (“Woman In Gold,” “My Week With Marilyn“), and starring Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie, Kelly Macdonald and Will Tilston as young Christopher Robin, along with Stephen Campbell Moore, Alex Lawther, Richard McCabe, Nico Mirallegro, Geraldine Somerville and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the film gives a rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children’s author A. A. Milne and his son Christopher Robin, whose toys inspired the magical world of Winnie the Pooh. Along with his mother Daphne, and his nanny Olive, Christopher Robin and his family are swept up in the international success of the books; the enchanting tales bringing hope and comfort to England after the First World War. But with the eyes of the world on Christopher Robin, what will the cost be to the family?
No release date yet, but given they’re already releasing stills, this one will get a big date on Fox Searchlight’s 2017 calendar.
