First Look: 'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 2 Gets Bloody

We probably don’t need to explain to you why the second season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” ranks very high on our 50 Most Anticipated TV Shows of 2018 list. Hulu‘s outstanding adaptation of Margaret Atwood‘s novel is one of the best things to watch on the small screen. The first season was tense, moving, and unfortunately, timely – with the show’s study of how women’s bodies are treated like objects by those in power proving to be not such an outlandish premise given those in current political office. The second season promises to turn the dial up even more.

The first look sees Elisabeth Moss‘ Offred/June covered in blood (we’re dying to know what that’s all about), along with a couple of moodier snaps from the upcoming season. Here’s the official synopsis:

The Emmy-winning drama series returns with a second season shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia. In Season Two, Offred and all our characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.

Co-starring Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle and Amanda Brugel, “The Handmaid’s Tale” returns in April on Hulu.
