Nicolas Cage has appeared in a seemingly endless stream of action-thrillers over the past several years, including treasures like "Bangkok Dangerous," "Seeking Justice" and "Trespass," — all done, we assume, to help pay down that mountain of debt Cage has accrued — but we're particularly intrigued by one of Cage's upcoming thrillers: "Frozen Ground," produced by co-star Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson.
Based on real-life events, "Frozen Ground" follows the 1980s investigation of serial killer Robert Hansen, who stalked or killed between 17 and 21 young women. Cage stars as the Alaskan detective Glenn Flothe, who tries to bring down Hansen (John Cusack) and finally gets the opportunity after a seventeen-year-old (Vanessa Hudgens) escapes from the killer and provides key information. Fiddy reportedly has a "substantial role" as a pimp in the film, and we're hoping that Cage will get to talk through clenched teeth to Fiddy at some point. The rapper-actor is sadly nowhere to be found in the first-look photos released by Voltage Pictures, but we do get a glimpse of Cage and a dead body, Cusack in various states of nervousness and a few shots of Hudgens dressed in a clear attempt to distance herself from the "High School Musical" movies that made her famous (or perhaps it's to distance her from "Sucker Punch"). Oh, also, a helicopter!
Written and directed by newcomer Scott Walker, "Frozen Ground" is seemingly set for release on December 1 (or so says IMDb, so tread lightly on that date). [Voltage Pictures]
