One movie that didn’t make our main slate of Premature 2016 Best Picture Oscar Contenders was Oliver Stone‘s "Snowden," but maybe we shouldn’t count him out. After all, the filmmaker is a two-time Best Director Oscar winner, and he’s got a third for writing the screenplay for "Midnight Express." That said, it’s been two decades since he was nominated for anything, but that could change with his latest pic, and the currently-in-production drama has unveiled its first photos.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt takes the title role of the whistleblower, with these images showing us the ordinary man who unquestioningly served his country before he made international headlines. Nicolas Cage, Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson and Timothy Olyphant round out the cast in supporting roles. Will this be a probing look at a contemporary figure or something more along the lines of the disappointing Julian Assange film "The Fifth Estate"?
"Snowden" will open on Christmas Day via Open Road Films.
