Earlier this month, we reported that drug-and-alcohol monitored actress Lindsay Lohan had signed to play Linda Lovelace in the upcoming biopic “Inferno.” Lovelace is the porn star who gained notoriety for her role in “Deep Throat,” one of the most notorious porn films ever made. “Inferno” will visit how Lovelace became involved in the industry and her ultimate departure from it when she became involved in the anti-pornography movement before her untimely death in 2002.
The project, which once had actual talent like Anna Faris and Sam Rockwell attached, now seems to be settling on whoever it can get. And that’s a shame because the story and controversy surrounding Lovelace and “Deep Throat” is fascinating (and was investigated in the solid documentary “Inside Deep Throat”) and it takes place during a very interesting moment in American cultural history. But for now, “Inferno” will pretty much be known as the Lohan “porn movie” and will forever be saddled with that baggage unless, improbably, Lohan delivers some kind of breakthrough Oscar-worthy performance.
Regardless, producers are forging ahead. It appears that some promo material has been created to most likely send to potential investors/producers and to hawk in the marketplaces of upcoming film convos. Photographer Tyler Shields has posted a few of the snaps on his Web site (and which we guess will be taken down soon enough) and it’s somewhat intriguing. Certainly, the shot of a troubled looking Lohan with men unbuckling their pants in the background is interesting, and points to the complex character that is Lovelace. There is a also a pretty nice vintage styled poster at the link.
No word yet on when this will go into production, but we imagine it will have to wait until Lohan can remove her latest anklet.
