Alrighty, here’s your first look at HBO Films’ “The Wizard Of Lies.” Directed by Barry Levinson, the drama is currently in production in New York and stars Robert De Niro (as Bernie Madoff) and Michelle Pfeiffer (as Ruth Madoff).
Fitting nicely into HBO’s one-off drama remit of ‘things about grown-up subjects’ that no-one else would make (see also: "You Don’t Know Jack," "Phil Spector," "Too Big To Fail") “Wizard Of Lies” is a look behind the scenes at Bernie Madoff’s massive Ponzi scheme, how it was perpetrated on the public, and the trail of destruction it left in its wake, both for the victims and Madoff’s family.

Levinson also serves as executive producer along with De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Berry Welsh, and Jason Sosnoff co-executive produces. The film was written by John Burnham Schwartz, Sam Baum, and Sam Levinson, based on the book of the same name by Diana Henriques, with “Truth and Consequences” by Laurie Sandell serving as additional source material.
Hank Azaria recently joined the cast, and the ensemble includes Alessandro Nivola as well. No word on when we’ll see it yet, but presumably sometime in 2016.
