One movie we pegged as a Cannes Film Festival longshot was Jean-Pierre Jeunet‘s “The Young & Prodigious Spivet,” but perhaps we should be revising our guesswork? The latest from the distinctive French filmmaker has been a bit under lock and key but a brand new selection of official images from the movie suggests that’s perhaps it’s a bit more along that we might have guessed.
Based on the best-selling novel “The Selected Works Of T.S. Spivet” by Reif Larsen, the story follows a young amateur cartographer, the titular Spivet, who travels cross-country on a freight train to visit the Smithsonian Institute. The eclectic cast features Helena Bonham-Carter, Callum Keith Rennie, Judy Davis, Kathy Bates and Jeunet regular Dominique Pinon with newcomer Kyle Catlett in the lead role. Basically, it’s another Jeunet movie (remember, he’s the guy whose done stuff like “The City Of Lost Children” and of course, “Amelie“), and nobody really does fantasy and wonder quite like him, and with the movie also arriving in 3D, it’ll be interesting to see how he approach the format.
The film is set for an October 16th release in France, but no stateside distribution deal is in place yet. Check out the pics below. [Kinopoisk]
