In the few years that have elapsed since Justin Simien broke out with “Dear White People,” his comedically charged look at race relations has arguably gained more relevance. And the Trump years just might be the sweet spot for his material which has now been expanded into a new Netflix show.
Antoinette Robertson, DeRon Horton, John Patrick Amedori and Ashley Blaine Featherson are the new leads for the show that is set among a diverse group of students of color as they navigate a predominantly white Ivy League college where racial tensions are often swept under the rug. The series aims to be a send up of “post-racial” America that also weaves a universal story about forging one’s own unique path.
“Dear White People” debuts on April 28th.
