Filming Starts In 10 Days
Oooh, boy. You would think the filmmakers would have learned the first time around, but alas, they haven’t and they are set to repeat history with the sequel to “Clash of the Titans.”
Cinematical reports that during a junket for the upcoming “Battle: Los Angeles,” Jonathan Liebesman revealed that the ‘Titans’ sequel will once again be converted to 3D. But, just wait, it will be better this time because they aren’t doing it in haste and everything will be conceived for the 3D. Right, uh huh. “I think what you have to remember is the first film was neither shot nor edited with 3D in mind,” Liebesman said. “It was shot as a 2D movie and edited as a 2D film, and they decided to convert it with six or seven weeks to go until release, which is insane; the technology was not there. That’s why we’re conceiving it from the start, from the ground up, in 3D, editing in 3D for 3D.”
Liebesman didn’t initially want to shoot in 3D but was convinced by the studio and realized that the look he was going for in the film would benefit more greatly being shot on film. “I didn’t want to convert, but Warner Brothers showed me how far conversion’s come,” he said adding, “The big question was to shoot native 3D or not. I tested a lot of digital cameras, and quite frankly, because I’m going for a sort of much grittier, grounded look in ‘Clash 2,’ the look I want is almost ‘Gladiator‘ with fantastical creatures in it, I found that the characteristics of film were more what I was going for.”
We’re not particularly sold on the conversion process (or really, 3D in general) and you would think given how much flack WB received the first time around they would want to stay as far away from the word “conversion” as possible. But we guess we’ll just have to wait and see the results.
ComingSoon adds that filming on the movie — set to star Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Edgar Ramirez, Toby Kebbell, Rosamund Pike and expected-to-return thesps Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes — will begin in 10 days. The film is set to hit theaters on March 30, 2012 so they’ll have just over a year to make the 3D look right. Keep your fingers crossed.
