Writing about movies and television every day, you become slightly numb whenever it’s announced that X-Movie will be turned into Y-TV Series. It’s just the way of the landscape right now, so it’s best to save yourself an ulcer, not worry about it, and get on with your day. But every once in a while comes word of a project that makes you want to break out the Maalox. And today there’s one of them.
THR reveals that a TV series based on “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind” is in the works. The film, penned by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Michel Gondry, and starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, is one of the most lovely, moving, funny and heartbreaking movies about letting go and moving on ever made. It’s perfectly calibrated, deeply insightful, haunting, and a truly singular and unique piece of work. And now, it’s just gonna be another thing on TV.
Kaufman and Gondry will not be involved, but Zev Borow, whose CV mostly consists of episodes of NBC sitcom “Chuck,” will write what’s described as a romantic TV series.
Just be thankful that it’s a long road for any TV project to get to pilot stage, let alone ordered as a series, so the odds of this becoming an actual show are still pretty long. But if you haven’t watched ‘Eternal Sunshine’ recently, perhaps today’s the day to jog your memory.
